For more than a century, Sanguine and Melancholy have been bound together as both partners in performance and in love — vampire jester lovers who perform at Castle Beaufax's masquerades. Once travelling performers cursed with undeath by Duke Henrik Strauss, they fled eventually to Baroness Noctra de Blanc's court, where Sanguine dances with radiant mirth and Melancholy weeps with silent sorrow.
