When a soul is rejected from Namneri's Chalice and does not enter the bounds of Syelden, it is doomed to aimlessly wander the spiritual realm that exists alongside the physical plane. But a lure brings many away from that plane — an ephemeral glow of warmth in some far, vague place. Like moths to a flame they are drawn to it, and like moths to a flame they are singed and burned, reborn as Nosmeni, burning Children, or "The Converted" as those who live in the Nocturnal Abyss call them.
