Hailing from the Vyanari – a secretive cult of assassins in Yanak Ti – Shyamiri was considered the most skilled of his generation, yet was denounced by his Denmother for hesitating when contracts involved children or begging targets. His jealous sisters exposed this weakness repeatedly until a mark was placed on him and he was forced to flee. He killed both sisters when they pursued him, then sought refuge with the Vilag Vlada Legaja mercenary company in Arrakana, which provided him protection and steady work. He remains vigilant, knowing the Precursors still hunt him.
